Strut top mounts, tuning engine, working on Booger's head...

Saturday morning... time to get some work done on Booger Mobile to sort out the strut top mount issue from scrutineering, so that Booger Mobile will be driveable for next weekend (to attend the Corvettes on the Coast car show).

Angus stopped by on his way between jobs and helped Damian to tune the carby - Booger Mobile is running much more smoothly now, and even idling at the right rpm!!

Being unable to locate a top strut mount, or an insert to hold the strut rubbers securely, Damian had the great idea to butcher the troublesome mounts (they aren't being used again anyway) to pinch the insert...

Hmmm... this isn't coming off as easily as Damian hoped!!

Got it...  and only slightly out of shape!!  A few taps with the knock-o-meter and it was good as new!!

Voila!!

Seems a shame to paint one strut mount and not the other...

The mount with the new top insert fashioned by Damian...

Mount with original insert...

Time to keep working on Booger's head refresh... now what to do for a nose?

This looks like it will be just the thing...

Uh oh...  Damian was drilling holes in the stainless steel with a 2mm drill bit (very small), when the drill bit snapped and the bit still in the drill had a chop at his finger!!  Damian knows the rules - if it bleeds, it's on the blog!!

Tricia took over the photos for a while, so here are some action shots of Damian fitting Booger's new nose (with Booger watching on).

Power drilling (not the one that broke)...

Check the alignment...

Screw that!!

Sitting somewhat in place...

Damian likes hand-stitching so much he decided to do this with wire!!

Time to give a recoat... let's see how it goes...

Not too bad, but you can still see the colour of the hair and eyes etc...

Fast forward to Monday arvo, and Damian has been out to buy some new undercoat to try to cover the old markings...

First coat of undercoat - starting to look better...

Front half before undercoat...

And after the first coat of undercoat...

With that done, it's time for a bit of an update on what's going on in Team Booger Mobile...

The Camp Quality esCarpade is now less than five weeks away...  Team Booger Mobile's fundraising total has just passed the $9000 mark!!  Two more fundraising events to go before the esCarpade, so Damian is still hoping to crack the $10000 mark before the esCarpade!!

Damian will have Booger Mobile down at the Corvettes on the Coast car show at the Southport Parklands on Sunday 15 September 2013, and then on Sunday 22 September 2013 it's the second annual Team Booger Mobile Skating Fundraiser at Sk8mania North Lakes!!

If you are nearby, why not support Team Booger Mobile at one of these two remaining fundraisers?
