Accelerator Cable - the saga continues...

Sunday morning... Father's Day 2010, and coincidentally the day that Damian and his delightful wife Tricia have been together for 19 years... The rain was falling gently, and Damian decided that it would be a lovely thing to spend some time with his family, including taking Booger Mobile for a drive around the block.

Damian's boys were so excited as they piled into the back... they headed to the shops, collected some bits and pieces, and headed down the road to their next stop...

Where's the saga you ask? Well, be patient, here it comes!!

Down the road a little bit (less than 5 km after leaving Damian's house), Booger Mobile suddenly had no accelerator... with a strong sense of deja vu, Damian pulled over and phoned his friend Vinhsin to collect him to take him home to get some tools, and also phoned his brother Jason (from Saturday's blog) to advise him there was a continuing saga...

Jason arrived shortly after Damian had returned with tools and commenced investigating the problem, so Tricia and the boys headed home. After being unable to resolve the issue on the roadside, Jason used vice grips to hold the throttle on about 1800 rpm and Booger Mobile limped back to Damian's house...

The culprit - the new accelerator cable had seized... Clearly no amount of heat taping was going to resolve this issue, so it was time for the carby to come off for a new strategy that kept the accelerator cable as far away from the heat as possible...

The carby was removed...

Put to the side ready for action...

And some new linkages pilfered from the old XC carby that was in the scrap pile...

Damian and Jason headed to a couple of auto stores and located a new accelerator cable, then Jason got to work on the carby linkages.

Here it is nicely reattached... note how the accelerator cable bracket is now perpendicular to the endine rather than horizontal to it...

This is the little engineering masterpiece that Jason created - the hole in the correctly shaped linkage wasn't the right size, so he cut the correct sized hole off the old linkage and welded it together, and in true Booger Mobile style, he even remembered to paint it!!

Of course, this has a few issues of it's own to be resolved, so watch this space

To be continued...

Why why why on all days did Booger Mobile have to break down( happy fathers day @DAMIAN.)
Here we all were thinking that all was sweet with the accelerator cable and then something like this happens. Here's hoping that you have managed to fix it for once and all,,better to happen now on a short trip from home than kilometers away.
You are still AWESOME TEAM BOOGER MOBILE and here betting Scottie just can t wait too get back into working on Booger.
